Disappointing Products

I thought I’d keep it real in this beauty post by talking about some of my recent disappointing products. While it is far nicer to say wonderful and lovely things about holy grail products, sometimes it’s also helpful to know which products to avoid.  Here are a few I’ve tried recently which stuck out in my mind for all the wrong reasons!

Disappointing Products

Kat Von D – Ink Liner

I bought this little trio set from Sephora because I thought I was buying her Tattoo Liner which I absolutely love and adore.  Without a shadow of a doubt it’s one of my top eyeliners.  However, these three are in fact her other liquid liner, Ink and surprisingly they are really terrible.  It’s so odd how one from her line can be so great and another can be a duff!  No matter how hard I try they won’t apply evenly on the lid.  It ends up being very streaky looking and ever so slightly watery.

Disappointing Products

Covergirl – Flamed Out Shadow Pencil

I love this kind of product which makes applying eyeshadow completely idiot proof and I remember thinking when I picked these two shadow pencils up what lovely, useable shades they were.  Having said that, I can’t even tell you how it looked on because they made my eyes stream.  It stung so much I had to wash it off immediately.  I’ve since researched this a common problem with these.  I have no idea what is in them but definitely stay far away!

Disappointing Products

Yves Saint Laurent – Touche Eclat Blur Perfector

When I tested this in store I loved the feel of it of my hand, it felt silky smooth and generally just lovely.  However, once I got it home I really struggled with it.  If I used it as a base it felt very waxy and didn’t seem to do very much.  It wasn’t pore minimising, mattifying nor did it provide a rose tinted glow.  When I tried to use it over my makeup to set it or reduce shine I found it would wipe my makeup off.  My other complaint is it is impossible to keep clean, the silky wax seems to attract dirt and the sponge ends up looking gross after a couple of uses.

Disappointing Products

Two Faced – Better Than Sex Mascara

I bought this because everyone and their mother had been raving about how fantastic it was.  After wearing it throughout the day I got home, looked at myself in the mirror and had full on panda eyes!  At first I thought it was me applying it incorrectly (although how on earth does someone apply mascara wrong?!), so I persevered with it but to no avail.  It just slides and melts all down my face.  I even had my flatmate try it and she came back with the same rubbish verdict as me.  Perhaps it is me, but I seriously do not get the hype surrounding this product!

Disappointing Products

Dose of Colors – Lip Gloss in Bellini

I usually love Dose of Colors but this Bellini shade is a real dud.  It is impossible to apply evenly and always ends up patchy.  It clings to your lips in a way that makes them look dry and flaky even when they aren’t.  Such a shame because it looks absolutely gorgeous on their website.

Although I will say their Matte Lipsticks are real winners and definitely worth a try.  I currently can’t get enough of the colour Stone.

Disappointing Products

bareMinerals – Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Hypnotist

There a actually a lot of things I like about this product, it’s super shiny, has a yummy mint scent and quite a nice hydrating consistency.  Although despite all the good points it is eclipsed by the abysmal packaging.  The tube leaks and has leaked inside my bag, on my dressing table and all over my clothes.  Not only has it ruined my things, but it also means I’ve only managed to use about a third of the product (if that!).  The rest was completely wasted which for a pricey lipgloss is really disappointing.

  1. Oooh, I love posts like this. Although I like to put so much make up on my wishlist, I love the honesty that lies in disappointment. It´s just one more thing that I won´t buy (and that´ll make my bank account really happy). I have also heard all the rave about the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and I really wanted to try it out. Maybe I won´t do now because it´s a lot of money for a mascara that just smudges around. I have a problem with my teary eyes anyway, so just adding to that won´t look good!

  2. It was such a shock when I didn’t like the Better Than Sex Mascara but seriously such a disappointment! I’d give it a miss or at least borrow a friends first before you buy xx
