Aside from the fabulous price points, their scents are sensational.
To mark the end of National Fragrance Week, I thought it was about time I properly shared my ultimate perfume secret. I have briefly mentioned my favourite affordable fragrance Monotheme on the blog before (see HERE & HERE) but I’ve never given you the full rundown.
Monotheme is a fragrance brand I came across purely by accident. I was introduced to it at a press day and was immediately smitten with the unique and interesting scents. I was kindly gifted my first bottle as a PR sample but have since purchased 2 myself and plan on buying a few more.
It’s no secret I’m a fragrance-aholic (read about my obsession HERE) and I have no problem spending a significant amount on a new scent. In fact, I’d readily admit I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to perfumes. I tend to lean towards the more exclusive fragrance houses which avoid using synthetic ingredients and manufacture in small batches. The truth is, affordable, mass-market brands simply fail to create the same compelling and complex smells.
At least that’s what I thought until I discovered this Venetian brand, Monotheme. It is exclusively stocked in Marks & Spencer and retails between £18-£22.50. Aside from the fabulous price points, their scents are sensational.
My favourite is Mimosa which has a musk/woody base with floral top notes. It’s perfect for those that don’t like their floral scents too sweet or flowery. Without a doubt, it’s the most sophisticated floral scent I’ve smelt to date. Shop it HERE for £22.
Verbena is a much fresher scent and has a unisex vibe to it. Like Mimosa, it is layered with really interesting notes. The best way I can describe it is, green top notes mixed with a musk base. It’s the perfect spring scent to wear holidaying in the Mediterranean. Shop it HERE for £18.
My third and final Eau de Toilette I have from Monotheme is Boccioli di Limone from the Book of Citruses range. This has a slightly higher price point but at £22.50 it is still very affordable. This is the ultimate summer fragrance. It’s far less complex than the other perfumes. Instead, it sticks purely to citrus notes, most notably lemon, making it incredibly refreshing and crisp. It’s the type of fragrance you wear during high summer. Shop it HERE for £22.50.
The next time you’re passing Marks & Spencer I highly advise taking the time to give these a smell. My only grievance is the scent doesn’t stick around forever, so you do need to respray throughout the day. However, this is to be expected with an Eau de Toilette. If you want something more potent and longlasting you need to be investing in an Eau de Parfum.
If you’re keen to learn more about fragrance and the different types of scents and fragrance families, I highly suggest you have a read of my Deciphering the Language of Scent post HERE.

These fragrances sound divine! I am in need of a new scent (or three or five…) but have trouble committing when they cost so much. This would be a great alternative. What a perfect way to mix things up! I hope you have a wonderful week!

I’ve recently been saying that I need to start investing more in more perfumes, but honestly by the looks of these I don’t even think it’d make that big a dent in my purse. I do love the sound of these and would definitely love to give them a try.
