12 Days of Giftmas: Gifts That Give Back
This gift guide is very special to me. As much as Christmas is about spoiling yourself and your loved ones, we also have a responsibility to give back. Buying gifts from socially responsible brands or charities is one of the easiest ways to do this.
The Soap Co. is an ethical luxury brand that creates sophisticated body care products. Based in East London, and with a traditional workshop in the Lake District, all their products are handcrafted in the UK by people who are blind, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged. Through the sale of their products they create over 10,000 days of employment and aim to generate over 60 new jobs per year to those that would struggle to work otherwise.
Aside from their incredible business model, their products are genuinely fantastic. I highly recommend the Hand Wash and Exfoliating Soap Pebbles.
GHD Limited Edition Pink Blush Collection Platinum Straightners and Paddle Brush
There’s no debate GHD is the go-to brand for hair straighteners. I use mine all the time and quiet frankly they are a godsend! They have saved me from numerous bad hair days!
From every sale of the Limited Edition Pink Blush Straighteners, £10 is donated to Breast Cancer Now. So not only can you (or your loved one) look fabulous but you (or they) can do it knowing this purchase has done some good.
If hair straighters aren’t your bag, then they also have a hairdryer or paddle brush where a proportion of the money is donated.
I had no idea till recently what an incredible online store The Big Issue has. With such a huge selection to choose from it’s pretty much a one stop shop for all your Christmas shopping. The shop showcases a selection of brands that are produced by social enterprises and those that use trade to help people improve their lives.
Some of my favourite pieces (aside from the mugs featured) from The Big Issue Shop are the huge toy selection, the hoodies and street art prints.
ThatchFace was founded by Ben Cleaver, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer at age 21. Following surgery to remove the original tumour, he then underwent a nine-week course of chemotherapy. Despite losing all his hair, the one thing that wouldn’t stop growing was his beard, so he became really focused on caring for it. It became the driving force behind ThatchFace and has resulted in 3 premium beard oils using natural ingredients.
ThatchFace donates 10% of profits to charity. They are currently supporting the Orchid Cancer Appeal, which focuses on research into and raising awareness of male-specific cancers.
ARTHOUSE Meath is an incredible initiative. It supports a collective of artists living with complex epilepsy and learning disabilities all of whom require varying levels of support. They work alongside instructors to create artworks which are developed into designer products for sale. 100% of sales revenue sustains the enterprise, enabling it to expand and evolve.
What is so amazing about ARTHOUSE Meath is the products they create are simply gorgeous. They look incredibly high end and if I got anything from them under my tree I’d be delighted.
Don’t forget you can also keep up with me on Instagram @thatnewdress, Twitter @thatnewdress, Bloglovin That New Dress, Snapchat thatnewdress and Depop @dominiquew.
ThatchFace sounds like a great brand. My boyfriend is really into beard care so some products are definitely on the Christmas list for him this year!
