It's hard to believe we're already at that point in the year where I round up my 2017 favourites.

It’s hard to believe we’re already at that point in the year where I round up my 2017 favourites.  For those who recently discovered That New Dress, at the end of each year I always collate the best in beauty, fashion, film and music.

If you’re interested in some of my previous favourites you can catch my “2014 FavouritesHERE, “2015 FavouritesHERE and “2016 Favourites” HERE.

Favourite Makeup Brand…

Without a shadow of a doubt the most exciting beauty launch this year was Fenty Beauty and I’m delighted it didn’t disappoint.

I’ve liked every product I’ve tried from the collection but I am particularly obsessed with the Match Stixs, especially the contour one (check them out HERE) and the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer (check it out HERE).

Favourite Skincare Brand…

There hasn’t been one skincare brand which blew me away this year but there have been a few individual products which really, really impressed me.

Number one is Perricone MD’s face creams.   This year I tried the Hydrating Cloud Cream (check it out HERE) and Oil-Free Hydrating Cream (check it out HERE) and they were both absolutely fantastic.

I’ve written a full review about the Hydrating Cloud Cream HERE.

I also have to mention nspa’s Hot Cloth Polish.  This is such a great product at a ridiculously good price.  It honestly does the exact same job as it’s high end counterparts.  Why spend £16, when you can spend £7?

There’s a full comparison review between this and Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish HERE.

Favourite Fashion Label…

This was the year of Balmain for me.  Balmain is my absolute favourite luxury ready-to-wear brand and I’ve managed to add quite a few gorgeous pieces to my wardrobe.

Pre-2017 I only owned Balmain x H&M, but now I’m the proud owner of 3 blazers, 3 tops and 1 pair of jeans (all of which were purchased preloved or on sale.).  I can honestly say they were worth every single penny despite the scary price tags!  I’m gaga for Balmain.

You can read the stories behind each of my purchases HERE, HERE and HERE.

Favourite Accessories Label…

I chose Sadie Stone as my accessories label of the year because I love how the brand offers a solution to an age-old fashion problem.  As beautiful as clutch bags are, they aren’t always practical.  Often, they’re much too small and it’s a struggle to fit everything you need, whereas Sadie Stone’s designs are deceptively spacious.  You can fit all you need and more inside.

You can read a full review of it HERE.  Also, if you fancy one yourself you can save 10% with promo code THATNEWDRESS.

Favourite Shoe Designer…

The shoes I’ve worn the most this year came from Dior.  Dior was narrowly pipped to the post by Balmain as my favourite fashion label for 2017.  You can read all about my love affair with Dior and their mega-talented Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri HERE.

I have indulged in 3 pairs of Dior shoes this year.  The first was my J’adior slingbacks which you can read a full review of HERE.  I wore these every day for about 3 months.

The second was a gorgeous pair of heeled ankle boots in the most beautiful mushroom colour.  Third, is my most recent pair, some divine black Chelsea boots which I snapped up at Bicester Village.  There will be an upcoming post with my recent Bicester Village haul in the new year where you’ll be able to see them in all their glory!

Favourite Scent…

This one is easiest to answer!  Without a shadow of a doubt, Le Labo Noir 29 (check it out HERE) is my best fragrance discovery this year.

This is a scent I’ll continue to wear for the rest of my life and if you haven’t had a whiff of it yet, I highly advise you do!  I also highly recommend Santal 33 too (check it out HERE).

Favourite Purchase…

Following on from my previous blogpost, My Birkin Story (catch it HERE if you missed it), my favourite purchase has to be my dream bag, a Birkin.  Sadly, I wasn’t able to keep the pretty blue one featured in that post but if you managed to read to the end you’ll know I recently treated myself to another one.

I haven’t officially revealed it on here yet but I’m very excited to in the new year.  It’s such a beauty, so watch this space!

Love 4 Grenfell

I also have to give a quick mention to my Grenfell tee which is still available to buy HERE.  Grenfell Tower is just a stone’s throw from my house so it affected my community hugely.  While there will never be a silver lining to such a tragic event, seeing the local support and fundraising efforts was absolutely amazing.  I am proud to wear my Grenfell tee.

Bargain of the Year…

My bargain of the year has to be my grey blazer from Balmain which I purchased from my favourite preloved boutique, Sign of the Times (read about it HERE).  Even though it was a lot of money at £895 it was still at least £700 less than RRP.  However, what made this such a bargain is just how much I’ve worn it.

See posts of it HERE, HEREHERE.

Favourite That New Dress Post…

This year I managed to produce more behind the scenes type posts which I absolutely loved.  For example, my Teeth Whitening on Harley Street (read it HERE), shopping with me at Sign of the Times (read it HERE) and experiencing Your Fitting Room (read it HERE) were all massive blogging highlights.

From day 1 this has been the type of content I wanted to produce on That New Dress but it took a while to work up the confidence to do them.  There is a lot of preparation that goes into creating these posts and when you pitch an idea to a brand/business you need to be fully confident in yourself and your blog.  Finally the confidence and self belief has started to grow after nearly 4 years of hard blogging slog!

Your Fitting Room

Favourite Film…

For me, this hasn’t been a year of standout films, so it was hard to choose a favourite.  However, I do think Baby Driver deserves a mention for it’s amazing sound track and incredible cinematography.  If you haven’t seen it yet, do!

Favourite Song…

The one song which really stood out to me this year was Rainbow by Kesha.  After everything she has been through it’s amazing to see her come back with such strong and meaningful music.  If you haven’t heard it yet, it’s worth a listen!

  1. Ok, I’m SO excited to see your Bicester Haul and for the big reveal of your Birkin purchase!!

Loved this roundup, Dior have definitely caught my attention this year (going to read your post on Dior now!), even more so after I visited the exhibition in Paris – truly fascinating. The Balmain blazer is SUCH a classic, staple piece and I can definitely see how it would be worth the investment.

Hope you’ve had a good holiday season and looking forward to seeing more of your content in the New Year!

  2. I’ve not heard the Rainbow song by Kesha before, but I really like it! I was most captivated by your Chloe boots though (hey boot twin!) ha ha. I am not surprised Balmain is your brand of the year though! If I had to pick, it would be Gucci for me as I went a bit crazy with Gucci this year!

  3. Can you believe it’s time for these yearly wrap up posts? I am in no way prepared for 2018 but incredibly glad that 2017 is over. Also, jumping right over to read your Birkin story, you lucky woman! Happy New Year!
