2015 Favourites

As we turn our back on 2015, I thought I’d start the first day of this new year on a positive note by chatting all about the products, brands and memories which have stood out and I have nothing but love for.  So lets get straight into it!

Favourite Make Up Brand…

BECCA had a real renaissance this year with the Jaclyn Hill collaboration.  Like so many others it was this amazing product which properly acquainted me to the brand and I’ve been obsessed ever since.  Some of their products I can’t get enough of right now include the obvious Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop which is the all time best highlighter, Shimmering Skin Perfector in Rose Gold and Backlight Priming Filter.

Favourite Skincare Line…

I’ve bemoaned my sensitive, acne prone skin so many times on here.  Although I feel like 2015 was a landmark year in terms of improvement and a lot of that is due to the skincare line Mario Badescu.  I’ve seen a reduction in the number of spots, tightened pores and smoother skin after switching to this.  It is a very strong product, so if you prefer the more organic, natural type treatments this isn’t for you but if you are looking for something effective, that will work I cannot recommend this enough.  You can read more about my favourite product in the line HERE.

Favourite Fashion Label…

There is no doubt the store I have shopped the most in this year is BCBG.  A lot of it is down to me loving the clothes, but also I’ve been in the US so much this year where it is significantly cheaper and boy have I made the most of it!  You do have to weed out their best pieces as their collection is massive and constantly changing but the bits I’ve picked up are so versatile and I know I’ll be wearing them season after season.  Here are some of my favourite looks:

Favourite Accessories Label…

In my eyes Anya Hindmarch can do no wrong! Her quirky bags, purses, tassels and stickers are so much fun and never fail to raise a smile.  I treated myself to couple of her bags this year and the more I wear them the more I love them!  You can read more about them both HERE and HERE.

Favourite Shoe Designer…

Another brand which makes me smile from ear to ear is Sophia Webster.  Her colourful, fun and full of life designs are always eye-catching and beyond unique.  If I had unlimited funds I would probably buy her entire collections every season.  I’m beginning to fall in love with her very witty clutch bags too.  I’m fairly sure I’ll be bagging myself one of those next year!  Also, they have the best Snapchat ever, it is beyond hilarious and you need to follow.

Trainers were also a big thing for me this year and I began a new love affair with Nike and Adidas.  Who would ever have thought I be a trainer gal!?

Favourite Scent…

This year I rediscovered a perfume I use to wear when I was about 18.  I loved it then and I’ve fallen back in love.  Sugar by Fresh isn’t something I’d usually go for as it quite zesty but it is softened with sweet floral notes.  Fresh reminds me of Jo Malone as they have an extensive range of fragrances which they recommend layering up to create unique, heady scents.  I believe Sugar is their classic eau de parfum but others I really recommend is Fig Apricot and Sugar Lychee.  Fresh has recently opened a gorgeous new boutique in Monmount Street in Covent Garden so I really recommend visiting to try the range yourself.

Favourite Purchase…

Without a shadow of a doubt my favourite buy this year has been my vintage Chanel Backpack from Vestiaire Collective.  I had wanted one for so long and it was definitely worth the wait (and expense).  You can read more about my love and excitement about it HERE.

Bargain of the Year…

This was the hardest one to pick but I think it has to be my Jimmy Choo lace booties from Bicester Village.  The reason these pipped everything else to the post is because when I initially tried them on in the boutique, they had a fairly hefty price tag.  However, the sales assistant randomly knocked off another £149.  It was the best surprise ever and they had to come home with me! You can read the whole story HERE.

Favourite Moment…

The moment I decided to make the bold move to move to LA was incredibly liberating but also insanely scary.  There were a lot of tears, some happy, some sad and many fear induced.  I was worried about leaving Simba, my partner in crime behind, scared about not knowing a single soul in this new city and sad to say goodbye my friends and family.  Little did I know I was about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime!  It is true when they say you regret the things you don’t do, not the things you do do.  It taught me to take more chances and be brave!

Favourite That New Dress Post…

2015 was an interesting year for That New Dress.  There were plenty of ups and downs.  I  took a 3 month hiatus from blogging while I was settling into life in LA and struggled with whether I wanted to come back to That New Dress and all the work involved.  I wrote a whole blogpost about it HERE if you’d like to have a read more about the reasons behind my break and why I chose to go back to blogging.  I did a big relaunch of the blog in October with a new logo, layout and steely determination to make this the best fashion and lifestyle blog it could be.  It was a huge deal for me, so I think the first post back after my hiatus was pretty special.  Other posts I really liked were my BCBG Part 1 & Part 2 as that was the first shoot I did after my break and Transitioning Into Autumn where I got to work with the high street store JOY.

Favourite Film…

Being in the land of film meant I saw a lot of great films this year from big blockbusters to small, arty films with tiny budgets.  Despite this my two favourite films this year are probably quite obvious ones.  Trainwreck had me laughing till my belly hurt, plus it’s a must see for any single girls in the city.  I also had a lot of love for (ahem) Magic Mike XXL.  Oh Channing Tatum you gorgeous human being! Both are out on DVD so buy or download stat!

Favourite Song…

This is oh so easy and won’t be a surprise to the people who know me best.  It’s Adele’s When We Were Young from her album 25.  First time I heard it it sent shivers down my spine.  Obsessed!
