Buying a vintage Dior piece like this is the perfect way to add that "luxury on-trend" look to your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

My newfound obsession with “vintage” continues! So far I’ve blogged about giving my old Dior Saddle bag a new lease of life (read about it HERE) and my love for a new discovery called, Vintage Fine Jewellery (read about them HERE).
Today, I’m obsessing over a vintage Dior Oblique-print jacket which I picked up from Depop. If you asked me about buying a piece like this a year ago, I would have scoffed. It’s amazing how much I’ve done a 180 when it comes to these retro items.

In Autumn/Winter 17, the Creative Director of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri, teased us with the revival of the Dior oblique print by featuring it in statement bag straps. Although it was originally designed by Marc Boham in 1967, it is probably most associated with John Galliano who used it liberally during the 2000s.
When I first saw its relaunch I wasn’t a fan. It just seemed so outdated but as the seasons have passed and since the print has become more and more prevalent, I’ve really warmed to it.
However, much like the Dior Saddle bag I’m not ready to pay full whack for these rehashed designs. Instead, I turned my attention to finding some vintage pieces from Galliano’s heyday.

I was amazed at how many good vintage Dior pieces were listed on Depop. Having also searched Vestiaire Collective and eBay, Depop definitely had the widest and best priced selection.
For those that don’t know Depop it’s an app where people sell their unworn clothes and accessories. It’s similar to eBay but items are listed at a single price rather then put up for auction. It’s a great place to pick up some insanely good bargains! You can check out my Depop page by searching for DominiqueW in the app.

Surprisingly, there are a number of sellers on Depop who specialise in retro luxury fashion from the 90s and 00s. This denim jacket came from one of those specialised sellers. I paid £150 for it which is much less then they’re listed for on Vestiaire Collective. The condition of it is incredible. It has no flaws or stains. I did send it for a dry-clean but other than that it’s perfect.

Buying a vintage Dior piece like this is the perfect way to add that “luxury on-trend” look to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. Plus, it’s a testament to how great Dior quality is that you can buy a jacket 15 years old and it’s still in fantastic condition.
One word of warning, even since buying my jacket, I’ve seen prices for these kinds of vintage pieces creeping up and up. To be honest, I think they will continue to do so, as Dior and other luxury brands such as Fendi and Prada continue to delve into their archives for upcoming designs.
You look so gorgeous! I love retro pieces especially when they become statement pieces that last. Hope you had an amazing weekend 🙂
