New Year is always a bit of a controversial one. I generally hear two very distinct views about the night. Either it’s their favourite time to party it up and ring in the new year in style. Alternatively, I hear a lot about it being overrated with bars being ridiculously crowded and too overpriced. I personally tend to sit somewhere in the middle. Whatever side of the fence you sit on, I have created several looks which should cater to your plans are this year.
I generally think there are 3 main categories which New Year celebrations fall into it. Whether you are slumming it at home, going to a friend’s drinks party or raving it up in the club, here are my favourite outfit suggestions:
Comfy and Cosy at Home
There is NO shame in staying home on New Year. This is exactly what I did last year with my brother and sister and it was one of the best ever. We got into our comfiest clothes, snuggled up under blanks with big bowls of popcorn and had a movie marathon. When midnight was a few minutes away we crept downstairs to the kitchen for champers and orange juice. Spending time comfy and cosy with those you love is often exactly where you should be.

My outfit of choice for staying at home is my perfectly worn in Topshop jeans, my very soft and snuggly Wildfox jumper and some converse. Bringing in the next year in my comfiest clothes is the best part of staying home!
Smart Casual at your Friend’s Party at Home
I feel like being at drinks party surrounded by friends and potentially new friends is the perfect New Year solution. You can properly catch up with everyone and share all your New Year resolutions and that way you can still be held accountable to them in six months time!

Drinks parties usually have a smart casual dress code which is always translated in different ways. I usually errr on the casual side because I generally prioritise comfort. This time of year is cold, so my drinks party outfit involves a cashmere jumper and tights (I know that’s a bit granny-ish but there is nothing worse than cold legs)! A statement belt and sparkly elements give it a slightly more glamorous edge.
In the Club with all your Girls
For the party girl New Year is the ultimate night out. It’s always a lively night and packed to rafters with fellow revellers. Also, New Year party wear is whole genre of dressing on its own. It’s the best time to pull out your sparkliest and most glamorous dress.

Yup, I’m still in tights even if I’m out on the town! This BCBG number is my party dress of choice this year. You can’t ever go wrong with a little black dress and the fringing on this gives it a party vibe without being OTT. Also, this dress is the perfect canvas to add a bit of sparkle too. Talking of sparkle can we just take a moment to admire these incredible shoes which are bargain considering they could easily be mistaken for Miu Miu or Dolce & Gabbana. They’re definitely my favourite shoes for the new year party season!
I totally get where you´re coming from with the two opinions. I feel like I´ve got both sides in me. One side really wants to go all out in the club and start the new year with a bang but then I also just want to sit at home and watch tv because partying usually leads to me being very disappointed. This year I´m definitely going to stay in because a very good friend is coming to visit me. So comfy it is for me! And your outfit of choice for a comfy evening in is almost exactly what I plan to wear.
