The idea is for it to streamline your look and keep you looking chic even on those super rushed mornings.

I’m usually of the strong opinion when it comes to dressing and fashion there are no rules.  As far as I am concerned anything goes and you can make anything work, as long as you feel comfortable and happy in it.  However, having said all that, I’m going to go completely against the grain with this post.

Some of you may have heard of the 1-2-1 rule currently doing the fashion circuit at the moment which has been termed as a “fashion failsafe”.  The 1-2-1 rule dictates an outfit should be made up of two block colours, one colour is worn on your top half and shoes and the second is sandwiched in between.  The idea is for it to streamline your look and keep you looking chic even on those super rushed mornings.

As a fan of colour blocking I thought I’d put this rule to the test to see if it really is a failsafe.  I went with orange as my bulk colour as this isn’t a shade I’d usually wear.  Plus, I think it’s quite a tricky colour to style, so anything which makes it easier is good by me!

I broke it up with white to keep it looking summery.  I have to say I was pretty happy with the finished look.  As it says on the tin, this really is the easiest way to look chic.

As a side note, I have to give these trousers from Oui a huge thumbs up.  I love the cut of them and the heavy weight fabric means they fall really well, but best of all they don’t crease.  They’re perfect for the office, out for brunch or shopping with the girls.

If you’re of normal height i.e. not 5ft1 like me, then they’d probably be cropped on you but they’re the perfect full length for me(!), so the good news is if you’re on the shorter side as these still work perfectly.  They come with in a number of different colours which I’m already planning on investing in.  Plus, the black and stone shades are currently on sale so I’d definitely put them top of your wish list.
